From Guest Blogger Adam Groff: Which Groups Use Social Media Best to Promote Green?

When groups, organizations, and businesses use social media to promote green initiatives, they’re spreading eco-friendliness to a massive audience.

And, going green via social media is a great way for organizations to get people involved in environmentally conscious practices and share information concerning the health of the planet.

With eco-friendly social networking in mind, here are just a few green organizations and groups using social media to their advantage:

Greenworks

Clorox wasn’t considered much of a green company until it came out with its own line of environmentally friendly products called Greenworks. And, in order to get the word out about the benefits of Greenworks, Clorox turned to social media to change their image.

Greenworks took social networking to heart by joining Facebook and starting a fan page targeting a wide audience including moms and environmentalists. The Greenworks fan page’s main objective is to talk about the all-natural benefits of its line of green cleaning products as well as answer any questions potential consumers may have.

Likewise, Greenworks uses Twitter by sharing environmentally friendly hashtags and informative tweets on their cleaning products. Not only that, Greenworks social media marketing efforts extends to blogging and partnering with other environmental sites like Sierra Club, Good Housekeeping, and the EPA.

Customized Performance

A leader in all things green, Customized Performance specializes in education and training in eco-friendly practices for cleaning supplies and processes. And, when it comes time for Customized Performance to reach its environmental advocates, it turns to social media.

After creating its website under the name GreenSeal.org, Customized Performance began sharing its mission by way of a Facebook fan page, Twitter campaign, and consistent, engaging blogs.

Through these social avenues, Customized Performance is better able to inform its audience on everything from environmental programs and certification to the company’s green initiative mission to listing participating retailers that carry their products.

Save Our Water

When the organization Save Our Water wanted to reach a larger audience, it chose social media with the sole purpose of engaging the world in conversation about water conservation. And, to ensure its efforts don’t go unnoticed, Save Our Water has an accessible, easy to navigate website and social media campaign.

Through Twitter in particular, Save Our Water tweets water saving tips, information on water conservation legislation, and water table resources by state that all links back to the in-depth website.

Although Save Our Water is a California-based organization, it reaches a worldwide audience with its Facebook fan page. The organization uses its Facebook influence to keep followers updated on everything from water conservation forums to household plumbing efficiency tips to water shortage updates from across the country.

Whether it’s cleaning products for a cleaner world, environmental education, or spreading the word about water conservation, green organizations that turn to social media are gaining interest in their initiatives on a massive scale.
