The World’s Most Successful People Will Not Fiddle While Rome Burns

The World's Most Successful People Will Not Fiddle While Rome BurnsA friend sent me this piece describing the role that Bill Gates and some other prominent people are playing vis-a-vis the development of “new” energy.  I responded:

That’s very cool; successful and intelligent Americans like Gates, Musk, et. al., are certainly not going to sit around and watch the planet barbecue itself. This is one of the main forces that has the power to turn around the impending environmental catastrophe before it’s too late.  Another key driver, of course, is the unassisted improvement in the cost-effectiveness of cleantech itself, which, of course, is why we should all be “Bullish on Renewable Energy,” as they say.  We’re getting there by accident, with or without the concern of the common people, or even the captains of industry.

And now we have extremely short-term problems to resolve re: our civilization’s survival,  e.g. , the lunacy of the most powerful person on Earth.

    Craig,

Er, Bill Gates and Elon Musk are “Captain’s of industry” !

But your point is valid. Clean(er) technology doesn’t have to be driven by government policies, it can simply be more competitive and profitable.
