Happy Earth Day

Happy Earth DayI can’t make it to Washington D.C. for Earth Day this year, but I’m looking forward to participating in one of the hundreds of satellite marches…this one in my home town of Santa Barbara.

This is a good opportunity for me to thank everyone reading this for your concern in doing the right thing for our planet, its 7.4 billion citizens, and the many billions to come in future generations.

Today in West Texas and So NM several veteran solar and energy efficiency professionals, academics and researchers as well as concerned environmental activists gathered together in a door to door campaign to Push Back against a Un responsive Monopoly Electric Utility that is trying to implement discriminatory special rates against users of solar dg systems. The utility is over reaching its charter to drive down the emerging solar sector and they are on the Wrong Side of History!!!

The utility is trapped in Reactionary Mode and clinging to a Past that did not work as well as sold to everyone.

The utility is failing to recognize the need to diversify its resource base and allow for distributed assets that can enhance resiliency and reduce pollution as well as stimulate organic economic growth within its service territory.

The group was joined by 15 college and High School students and this collection of Environmental Activists delivered over 8,000 door hangers messages across a large metropolitan area . The group Collectively Celebrated Earth Day with this Activist event. Street Action gets results.

Tying the anti solar practices of the utility to local elections provides greater awareness of these issues among st the electorate . The goal is to create the solar equity issue as a campaign issue for many of the races.

A productive Day for many and the Arc of Positive change was Extended today! along the Borderlands.

The darkened skies and negative messages of the Trumperian ERA are no match for the will and the positive energy of the people who want and expect more from this land. Moving Forward !

    Craig,

I realize posting the Presidents message is like waving a red rag at a bull, but I believe it reveals a President at least willing to listen and accept new concepts.

    President Trump:-

“We can and must protect our environment without harming America’s working families. That’s why my administration is reducing unnecessary burdens on American workers and American companies, while being mindful that our actions must also protect the environment.

Rigorous science is critical to my Administration’s efforts to achieve the twin goals of economic growth and environmental protection”.

Now I maybe wrong, but I fail to see the value in maintaining an unyielding torrent of abuse and animosity toward a President revealing a measure of conciliation.

What is more likely to achieve results. a) self indulgent demonstrations, ranting and extremist, even violent protest or b) reaching out to achieve inclusion by understanding why others (including the President) disagree ?

After all, this President offered an opportunity to find common ground. It maybe possible, with calm and mutual respect, to achieve a great deal together.

No one can hope to win 100%. In the end it depends on what you want to achieve. Do you want the ego driven pleasure achieved by being a radical fanatic and feel part of a “great cause”, thereby avoiding coming to terms with your own insignificance, or achieve real, if modest, beneficial outcomes for the environment?

The choice on Earth Day is to either revel in your solidarity with fellow radicals and delight in reinforcing existing animosities, or reach out in a calm and peaceful manner, with modest and non-disruptive environmental improvements everyone can support.

It it possible to give up screaming at folk, ” the world about to end and it’s your fault !”. Wouldn’t it be better to provide an invitation to experience the fun of riding in an electric car ?

That’s how I spent Earth day, not “preaching’ just sharing the fun of EV technology. From cars to electric ride on mowers (we organized a race), we show cased “clean Technology. We objective was to include everyone in a “non-preachy” environment. Even President Trump and his family could attend, enjoy, and take away a little more confidence in the future:).

In Australia, Tuesday the 25th is Anzac Day.

For Australian’s and New Zealander’s this is our Veteran’s Day, a national holiday to remember the sacrifices made by members of the armed forces in defence of our nations.

Perhaps on the two occasions it’s as well to remember the high cost of “crusades” and fanaticism. Both Australia and NZ are( like America) nations of migrants. The havoc and devastation wrought by war is the result of failure to accommodate the needs and fears of others.

Sadly, reason doesn’t always prevail in face of fanaticism and war becomes inevitable. But, it’s well to remember that in every conflict there was always a time when the opportunity for good will could have prevailed, if we possessed the wisdom to recognize and grasp the moment.

In the word’s of the late, and great Phil Orchs,

“Well, I know you’re st on fighting,
but what are you fighting for ?”
