We Don’t Have “Opinions” About Science

We Don't Have "Opinions" About ScienceNikita writes: Just read your blog; you are writing about things I never thought about. What is your opinion about this invention?

It’s a scam.  It violates the 1st and 2nd laws of thermodynamics. Think about it: this produces energy out of nothing?  That doesn’t make sense to you, does it?

There is no energy in gravity, btw.  Gravity is a force that attracts masses to one another. The relationship between gravity and energy is that moving an object opposing gravity (or any other force) requires energy; an object moving with a force releases energy.

Not to pick nits, but it’s not really correct to say that one has an “opinion” about an element of science.  We don’t say we have an opinion on the sum of 2 and 2, or that the Earth rotates on its axis.  An idea whose truth can be resolved using science is either right or wrong; opinions are associated with subjective ideas like beauty, the appeal of certain foods, etc. That climate change is real is a fact; that the gin pictured above is excellent is my (considered) opinion.
