The Power of Celebrating What We All Share in Common

What We All Have In Common Is Absolutely EnormousA friend on Facebook requested that everyone share a photo of the U.S. flag, as a sign of respect. I complied, and added:
Citizens of Earth (like me) respect this flag, and the other 195–all at the same time. We recognize that we have surface-level differences from the people of other countries, but that what we share in common is much greater, and far more important.

While no decent person respects oppressive governments, we need to understand that, living under even the most tyrannical of those governments, are people just like you and me. We all love our parents and our children, we all value justice, we all have rights, and we all hate war.

Peace won’t come from bombs and drone strikes. If it comes at all, it will arrive via our celebrating our common humanity.
