Mensa Shows that Excellence in Public Relations Means Positioning with Breaking News

trump-tillerson-1There are two main schools of thought when it comes to PR:

Barrage editors with your client’s material in the hope that some of it gets in front of the right people at the right time.  This, of course, takes no real talent, and generally causes so much irritation that your material, regardless of any relevance your content may have had, is largely ignored.

Keep and ear to the ground for breaking news that has some relevance to your client, and then insert something super-relevant. (FWIW, this is the tack my PR people take here at 2GreenEnergy when we take on a client in this space.)

The latter of the two is exactly what the (literal) geniuses at Mensa did just now.  Trump challenged his Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, who had apparently referred to him a f***ing moron, to an IQ test.  Evidently, someone at Mensa said, “Hold my beer. I got this,” and got his organization’s name and mission all over social media in a matter of minutes.

Great thinking!

Of course, if these people aren’t known for superlative thinking, nobody is.
