From Guest Blogger James Scott: Five Ways To Make Your Routine More Eco-friendly

IMG_5953Given everything we know about environmental pollution and degradation over the past several years, more and more people opt for a more eco-friendly lifestyle. This goes to show how much people actually care about the world they live in, despite the less than eco-conscious mindset of many corporations and factories.

How can you make your daily routine and everyday habits more eco-friendly in order to make a personal contribution to the planet?

Having food at home

You might be an eco-friendly person yourself, but you should be aware that you are in a minority as of now. Restaurants, fast-food joints, and kiosks prepare food in a less than stellar way due to high demand and fast turnaround times.

What you can do to amend this is to turn your kitchen and home into an eco-house. Prepare food at home, use minimal plastic packaging and always strive towards using clean, organic products in your meals. Just like you wouldn’t feed something bad to a stranger, don’t do it to your own family and plant seeds of an eco-friendly home environment.

Limit your water usage

While you shouldn’t make compromises when hygiene and cleaning is concerned, you should be aware of the water usage statistics and what they say about excess water use. We are using water as if it were an infinite resource without thinking of the environmental damage it causes in excess use. If we want to have water for years to come and leave some for our children and their children, we should be more eco-aware of the water we are using on the daily basis and not throw it around.

Bike, walk or ride

Biking to work or taking a walk every day might not be the ideal situation you can imagine. However, the pollution caused by motorized vehicles is far from a joke, meaning that we won’t have any air to breathe at all if we keep doing what we are doing.

Even taking the bus to work is less environmentally hazardous because you are still taking one vehicle out of the equation for that day. You can use a professional writing service to outline and format your papers in order to limit your vehicular pollution. Limit your use of motorized vehicles for private use only for traveling outside the city, shopping trips, visiting family, etc.

Inform and educate yourself online

You don’t need to buy books and magazines each time you want to inform yourself about something. Thankfully, the online digital media allows you to know just as much about the world around you, if not more. Instead of buying printed papers that you will inevitably throw away, opt for more eco-friendly products and read your news online. You can even educate yourself, prepare exams and read up on latest scientific studies on the internet without polluting your environment.

Recycle everything

Believe it or not, you can recycle just about everything you find around your house. This will result in a much better lifestyle for you and your family, given the fact that you will be returning everything you have been using back to its original shape.

For example, giving away old clothes to second-hand shops or charities can help other people – no need to throw it away or put it in a forgotten closet. Kitchen equipment and ingredients you used up can be sorted carefully and put in their respective recycling stations in the city without dumping everything into one bag. These small steps will ensure that you provide a good example to your friends and neighbors, as well as provide a slightly better living environment for your family.

First steps

Working our way towards a more eco-friendly environment as a species will take a long time. Years of neglect and negative influences won’t make the job of creating a greener environment any easier. However, the sooner we start, the better our chances are of fixing everything that’s wrong with the world and nature around us. Do everything in your power to raise awareness of environmental issues and start by changing yourself for the greater good.
