From Guest Blogger Eileen O’Shanassy: Six Food Companies Doing Their Part for the Environment

1 (1)Every day, we make decisions that impact our environment — whether we are eating, washing our clothes, or driving to work. Fortunately, there are many options available for our daily personal needs that are healthy for us, and the earth. Companies of all sizes are stepping up to pursue a unified mission of sustainability and recyclability in everything from ingredient sources, to the store label. Here are six food companies doing their part to provide quality products that our environment (and our taste-buds) just love.

1. Clif Bar & Company

Many food businesses may boast “only organic” ingredients, but Clif takes this a step further by ensuring their facilities use 100% green power. Clif pursues a clear mission of sustainability in everything they do, from where they source their ingredients, to the packaging and shipping of their tasty and energizing treats.

2. The British Honey Company

This small business produces local honey products that are both delicious and void of the processing used by larger honey manufacturers, which destroys and wastes the simply unattractive milkiness of natural honey. British Honey embraces the fact that responsibility for our resources can be savory too.

3. Numi Tea

This company is a great source of sustainable and high-quality premium teas. Numi is so dedicated to maintaining this goa, that 89% of their ingredients can be traced to their specific sources.

4. Kyani

This company is passionate about utilizing natural resources for the benefit of both the client and the environment. This small business offers a multitude of supplements and other personal health products that are sourced directly from the Alaskan wilderness.

5. Chipotle Mexican Grill

Even fast-food restaurants are effectively reducing their environmental impact and optimizing their resourcefulness. Chipotle has already implemented a system to conserve water. This goal continues unabated as they explore more ways to respect their resources.

6. Starbucks

Don’t think that environmental stewardship requires you to ditch your favorite morning brew. Starbucks doesn’t just use reusable cups, they are also an active proponent of improving recycling infrastructure. Their work in recycling has made it easier for the everyday man to do their part, and for big recycling giant to step up to the game.

These are just a few great examples of food companies that are taking action to reduce their tread on the environment. Next time you need a snack or a sip (or both), don’t forget to consider them, it might save the world.
