Trump’s War on the Environment Is a Yawn

1f26dbddaf0f615e402b61133570da64Donald Trump is dropping climate change from the list of threats to U.S. national security, a move bound to please his dwindling base of a) the rich and b) hateful people/morons. (Note to Trump supporters: If you’re not sure which one you are, just check your stock portfolio.  If there aren’t at least seven, preferably eight digits in it, I have bad news.  Also, see the cartoon below.)

But let’s consider the real effect of such grandstanding.

We could start with the U.S. military, whose entire leadership consists of people whose job it is to protect our country today–and in 30 years–when tens of millions of climate refugees will be desperately searching for a part of the globe that still supports human life, and when food and potable water become sufficiently scarce they they replace oil as the commodity about which the world goes to war.  Do you think for a minute that our generals and admirals could possibly give a damn about what Trump is telling his followers this week? They’ve been on track to deal with climate change for decades, and they’ll continue their work long after Trump is gone.

From there, we could go to the private sector, where virtually every business entity based here in America, even the oil companies, continues to strengthen its dedication to sustainable practices and products.

Then we could travel to state and local government, and we’d see the case is precisely the same here.

Trump is a terrible person, and horrific blow to this formerly great nation.  But, in the grand scheme of things, he’s a snooze.

    Craig,

Great news! If the President and current administration are only a mere bump in the road, and inconsequential in the overall scheme of things, perhaps you’ll now calm down, stop obsessively ranting outrage at the attics of Washington, and get back to far more interesting events occurring all round you.

IMHO, great progress is being made on all fronts in clean(er) technology. The rise of AI has been very rapid and is changing not only the world around us but our perceptions of reality. How each generation copes with dramatic social and financial changes will be fascinating.

The phrase “ride the Tiger” has never been more true !

Thanks to the the astuteness of my younger son and two of my youngest assistants, I was an early investor in Crypto-currency and crypto-technology. In 2012 I invested in modest way by creating a small team just to explore and trade in alternate currencies and technologies. So far the results have been very satisfactory.

My younger son is far more enthusiastic and has made extraordinary profits from cryto-speculation.

(Like all booms, the trick is to quickly and continuously discharge investment thus ensuring you’re always playing with house money!)

Other new technologies are also benefiting mankind. In 2018 we’ll conduct the first field trials of livestock genetically modified not to emit methane. This technology is in the fifth year of a twelve year project. If the project remains as successful as the first five years, not only will the animals be much healthier, but a major source of green house emissions will have been eliminated.

We are proud to be associated with all kinds of cutting edge clean agricultural technology. Everything from increasing the ratio of female calves born to dairy farmers, to soil conservation and waste energy reclamation.

These are exciting times for clean tech investors. Many of the projects which were prototypes ten years ago, are now becoming reality!

While the interest in radical “Green” politics and ideology may have waned, interest in practical and functional clean tech has never been higher.

Craig, it’s been a fascinating 2017. I’m grateful to be home in Australia safe and in good health. I wish you and your family, and all your readers a safe and prosperous Christmas and new year.

(My prayers at this time are especially for those affected by the terrible wild fires in California ).
