Being Politically Active Comes at a Cost

Last Thursday was the birthday of feminist Elizabeth Cady Stanton (pictured), who said: “The moment we begin to fear the opinions of others and hesitate to tell the truth that is in us, and from motives of policy are silent when we should speak, the divine floods of light and life no longer flow into our souls.”

This has particular relevance in my life this week, insofar as I elected to participate in a politically activist television and radio broadcast (“Zo What”), even though a colleague of mine refused to go on the show.  She made her decision on the basis that she was heavily involved with straight-laced investors who wouldn’t approve of her being a part of something so far out on the fringe. I understand that, and I respect it, but I think the words of Stanton here have some meaning and import as well.
