The Wrath of Climate Change Will Be Imbalanced

What will happen to our economic fortunes in the Western Hemisphere as it warms over the coming decades?  It depends on exactly where we live.  Longer growing seasons in the northern latitudes means more agricultural prosperity.  Hotter summers in the deserts mean bigger electric bills associated with air conditioning. None of this should be taken to mean that the damage from climate change should–or can–be measured in terms of money. The deaths from heat prostration/stroke, drowning deaths in floods, catastrophic property damage, people permanently displaced from their homes, and the untold other forms of misery felt by people all over the world cannot be reduced to dollars and cents.
