Winning Against Evil Isn’t the Reason We Fight It

I’m reminded of that too.
On a lighter note, I remember voting when my kids were young. I always took them to the polls with me, to given them first-hand experience with rights and duties that accompany U.S. citizenship. On one election, I guess it was the 1998 midterm, I took Jake (age 5) on my shoulders, so he could see how I voted. When he learned the following day that my candidate had gotten less than 1% of the popular vote, he was furious with me. “Dad!” he screamed at me. “You voted for a LOSER!”
Of course, I laughed, and explained gently that we vote for what we believe in, not what other people think.
