New Report on Climate Change Looks at Heat Absorption in the Oceans craigshieldsPosted on January 9, 2019 Posted in Climate Change The validity of the theory of anthropogenic global warming is undeniable, though this doesn’t mean that scientists have an airtight grip on every aspect of what exactly is happening here on Planet Earth. Here’s a good example: a report that was released just a few days ago presents the fact that 90% of the heat energy absorbed into the Earth’s surface has gone into the oceans, with only 10% going into the atmosphere. This heat absorption in the oceans is the equivalent of detonating one atomic bomb per second. What will be the consequence? Warm water is less dense than cold water, and therefore occupies more volume, meaning sea-level rise. Warm water also offers more heat energy to storms that pass over it, meaning more severe hurricanes/typhoons. ‹ Take a Cool Guess—The Fun Quiz on Renewable Energy and Environmental Sustainability.
