Proper Role of Government

In response to the meme at left, a reader comments, “It shouldn’t be the government regulating what we buy.”

That depends on your philosophy of government.  IMO, government should act to protect the health and safety of its citizens.  Consuming less electricity means a healthier environment for all of us.  I’m OK with a government that mandates seatbelts in cars, prohibits drunk driving, requires licenses for contractors, keeps poisons out of the food supply, etc.
