Caveats on Hydrogen as Fuel

“Hydrogen can satisfy almost half of the U.S. energy demands by 2050 and play a key role in achieving the country’s net-zero emission goals, according to an investigation by Aurora Energy Research.”
Well, this statement is some combination of incorrect and misleading. In particular, hydrogen isn’t a source of energy; it’s a carrier. This is like saying that gas tanks (as opposed to gasoline itself) supply energy to your car. The energy has to come from somewhere.
Moreover, the processes by which hydrogen is created from either the electrolysis of water or the reformation of methane are expensive, inefficient, and, in some cases, environmentally unfriendly.
