Coal Losing to Solar and Wind, But Is It Happening Fast Enough?

Solar and wind produce 12% of the energy the U.S. consumes, according to this report, a figure that has doubled in the last five years.  Teaming up with nuclear, the three carbon-free sources of power are steadily replacing coal. Coal generation dropped a record-breaking 8.3 percent in the first half of 2020, compared to the same period in 2019.

This is happening, but will it happen in time?

Out here in California, it’s hard to be too sanguine, since essentially the entire state is either on fire or close enough to a fire to have horrendous air quality.  That’s because of hotter temperatures and prolonged drought, causing drier conditions.

That the United States is doing next to nothing to establish a low-carbon energy policy is simply disgusting.
