An Educated People Are a Dangerous People

Throughout history, there have been many social critics who have observed that public education represents a real danger to the ruling class.  Here’s what George Carlin said on the subject:

Governments don’t want well informed, well educated people capable of critical thinking. That is against their interests. They want obedient workers, people who are just smart enough to run the machines and do the paperwork. And just dumb enough to passively accept it.

To which I would add: and so desperate for that next paycheck that even the slightest measure of protest is out of the question.

It can be argued that today’s United States represents this concept in spades.  Trump says that “many people want a dictatorship” (even though our democratic republic has worked well for the first 249 years of our nation’s existence).

Does any educated person believe that for a second?

Garbage like this thrives on ignorance. Or equivalently: Ignorance is the oxygen that autocracy breathes.
