Conservatives’ War on Education

Now, that was the 1970s, long before the GOP went off the rails and we wound up with Donald Trump.
What are some possible reasons for this vicious attack on education? A few ideas include these (general) truths about educated people. They:
• Understand science, and are therefore very hard to lie to about vaccinations, climate change, etc.
• Believe that it would be good if the United States could continue to produce its own doctors, scientists, astronauts, and so forth.
• Tend to accept people of all races, religions, and sexualities.
• Are able to see through the bald-faced lies of political leaders.
• Tend to be relatively affluent and are therefore less desperate about the price of gasoline and eggs.
• Understand that American national security is not threatened by the presence of undocumented farm workers and restaurant dishwashers.
• Do not want federal troops unlawfully sent to our cities.
• Resent Christianity being forced upon our school children.
• Believe that life is more rewarding when we’re able to broaden our understanding of the world around us.
