“Is It Just Me, or Did People Seem Happier Back Then?”

Well, the 1970s was a time before:

• Corporate greed really took root and got a financial stranglehold on both employees and consumers.

• Our educational system failed, resulting in people stupid and mean enough to vote for Donald Trump.

• Social media became a huge force behind spreading disinformation.

• People respected the science that pertained to things like human health and environmental issues.

• Climate change and other elements of environmental decay threated to destroy the planet.

• The gap between rich and poor widened to the point that 60% of Americans live paycheck-to-paycheck.

• Congress abandoned its support of laws that were good for the constituent and focused exclusively on pleasing large donors.

• The United States became threated with the prospect of becoming an authoritarian state.

There’s good reason that the American people aren’t as happy as we were 50 years ago.
