Is Greta Thunberg a Climate Scientist?

My Republican mother used to ask me about Greta Thunberg, “Since when has a 15-year-old girl become an expert on climate science?”

“She’s not,” I would reply, “She’s a political activist who trusts what scientists are telling us over what the oil companies say. Whose accounts on this matter do you trust, and why?”
