Abortion Bans and U.S. Politics

The ban on abortion in a large and growing number of states, driven as it is by far-right-wing Republicans, may work politically in the most backward and ignorant regions of the country.  But how is this going to fly for the GOP on a national level?

If I were a betting man, I’d say pretty goddamn poorly.  Think of the women in the swing states of Michigan, Wisconsin, Florida, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and the like, and ask yourself what percentage wanted to see Roe v. Wade overturned. It’s measured in single digits.

Keep in mind that this isn’t just a garden-variety political issue like border security or renewable energy.  We’re talking about the most fundamental and personal right that applies to every woman in the country (not to mention virtually every man who has a relationship with a woman).
