Fewer Religious Fanatics Means Good News for America

Eugene Debs was a turn of the 20th Century American political activist and labor organizer, whose words here represent precisely what’s happening in the United States today.  Our nation is comprised in part, of religious fanatics who think of themselves as patriots, and represent the core of the Republican base.

Yet my bet is that this type of thinking and behavior loses its appeal over time, which I base on my observation of the changing present-day demographics of America.  Fortunately, we see atheism as the fastest growing “religious” sect, and sharp declines in the numbers of other people who say they take the bible literally.

Certain watershed events, e.g., abortion bans and the steady drumbeat of mass shootings are accelerating the rate of change.

As rationality replaces fear and ignorance, we can expect the Donald Trumps of the world to have a diminishing base of prospects for their divisiveness and hate speech.
