Education in America

It’s both surprising and disappointing to see our country’s greatest minds, like Mark Twain and Robert Frost, make comments like this about education.

Would our children be better off illiterate? Unable to find Russia on a globe? Believing that the world is flat, or that vaccinations cause disease?

If you’re one of the world’s most gifted artists, poets, or musicians, or perhaps the most intuitive scientists like Einstein or Schrodinger, it’s possible that you may regard learning algebra or the history of the Second World War or the Louisiana Purchase as a bore.

For the rest of us, it’s a gift.
