A Few Effects of Climate Change Are Good (Though I Don't Think the Polar Bear Pictured Here In the Arctic Ocean Is Too Keen on Hearing About Them)

Although the overall consequences of climate change are terrible (desertification, sea level rise, floods, storms, wildfires, more disease-carrying insects, loss of biodiversity, etc.), there are some accidental consequences that are positive, e.g., lower heating fuel bills in certain parts of the world and longer growing seasons for Canadian farmers.  But here’s an article by a guy who’s a tad cheesed off at the corporations that are profiting from global warming, likening them to a guy who drives by a house on fire, sees a kid screaming from a bedroom window, and places a call to his stock broker to invest in fire trucks.

The article points to another example of a positive effect: The melting of the arctic means cutting a ton of time and fuel from many shipping routes; e.g., the trip from Seoul to Rotterdam is now 4370 fewer miles than it was a few decades ago when the arctic was frozen.  This means more profits for all concerned, including those corporations who products are causing the poles to melt in the first place.  As readers will see, the author is more than a bit displeased with our civilization’s appalling approach to morality in the 21st Century; he certainly speaks for me.
