Carbon Emissions and Our Energy Mix: A Problem That Will Take of Itself

Here’s an article that explains how the European Union has agreed on what the author refers to as “ambitious” renewable energy targets (30%) for 2030.  Though this is obviously good news, I join those who believe that such targets are a piece of cake, for a few reasons:

• Most obviously, the levelized cost of energy from solar and wind continue plummet. 12 years is a very long time to experience further improvement in the LCOE associated with renewables.

• Integrating variable sources is relatively easy when the total percentages are low.

• The EU generally has good renewable resources.

• Public pressure for climate change mitigation strategies and tactics can only improve over time.

There is no question that we’ll get there; the question is how much damage we will have done in the process.
