We’re All Abuzz About This Contribution To Sustainability
Holland is known around the world for its marvelous commitment to clean energy and sustainable ways of living. I just Googled “Netherlands bicycling” and glanced through a few of the 34.9 million hits.
Utrecht aims to introduce 55 new electric buses by the end of the year, all powered by wind turbines, and have “completely clean public transport” by 2028.
These guys miss very few opportunities to make the planet a cleaner and better place to live. Gardens on bus stop roofs to promote healthy conditions for bees? Why not?
Eco-responsibility is an integral part of the Dutch ethos; it underpins how they live, work and play. We may consider doing the same here in America.
Craig,
Why do you persist in idolizing these small, and often unique nations, especially in a highly inaccurate and idealized fashion?
The Netherlands is a very flat, tiny nation with a total land area of 16,040 sq miles making it about half the size of West Virginia. (In the US it would be the 41st smallest state).
With a population of nearly 18million, the Dutch Government has encouraged emigration efforts to reduce population. This has caused considerable friction in the Netherlands as due to being an EU nations, the country has suffered from waves of migrants for under developed nations creating a lot of resentment and violence.
The national economy is built on the exploitation of huge natural gas reserves operated by Royal Dutch Shell, and Exxon Mobil.
The Netherlands has invested heavily in Wind energy yet the result are patchy and the efficiency of the projects is in dispute as the turbines age.
The Netherlands, once a stronghold of EU support, now has large percentages of voters unhappy with membership.
