Jimmy Carter’s Old, But Just as Potent a Force for Compassion as Ever

Most people improve in character with age; they gain wisdom, become more honest, more generous and less hostile.  Most are able to look at their lives in grander terms, and some come to see humankind as a whole, struggling to succeed.  Perhaps this is especially true of those who have enjoyed extreme levels of power, whose choices have affected billions of lives; they seem to have some interesting ideas to offer as they reach the end. 

Here’s Jimmy Carter, who’s actually more popular now than the day in November of 1976 on which he was elected President of the United States, or at anytime since. Venerated for his love of humankind and his commitment to the world population’s well-being, Carter will eventually leave us, but not without having made an enormous contribution to every one of us.
