Will Mississippi “Succeed” from the Union?

OK, this guy is a boob.  Fine.  Like Mississippi succeeds at anything anyway.

His presence in our world, however, raises an interesting question: What would have happened if Lincoln had simply told Jefferson Davis….

Fine.  Keep your slaves.  You won’t have them for long, because no one in the north, and God knows no other country will have anything to do with you.  See how long it takes for you to be so poor and so backwards technologically that we, or Mexico, or anyone else who has the slightest inclination, rides through your plantations with our advanced guns, frees your slaves, and maybe even puts a bullet in your racist ass.  We already know what electricity is, and soon we’ll have electric lights and cars, appliances, and industrial machinery.  Phones will replace telegraphs, and we’ll have machines that play music and project images on screens.  

FWIW, all these technologies actually were developed within about 25 years of the end of the war.

This concept would have meant a slight prolonging of slavery, but lots of lives saved, and a huge lesson to all the world about the use of diplomacy vs. war.
