Why the National Chasm Cannot Be Bridged

All this derives from our having turned “news,” i.e., objective reporting on current events, into an extremely lucrative industry. Profits come from ratings, ratings come from controversy, and controversy comes from exaggerations, over-generalizations, and bald-faced lies.
As I tell my mother, when she says that progressives want open borders, “We’re being played, and this is a fabulous example. I doubt there is a single person in the United States who wants open borders, which will turn our country into Nicaragua in a matter of a couple of years. But it’s what you’re being told. I’m sure my head is full of inaccuracies too.”
