Trump is relentless in his quest to destroy California’s clean air standards associated with auto emissions, ordering the state to conform to the lowered protections he’s commanded for the other 49 states.
Croatia, like most prosperous countries, faces an internal debate associated with the development of pristine lands. The Dalmatian islands, of which there are 2243 off the country’s western coast, appear ripe for the taking, and there are plenty of hungry business groups salivating, with visions of casinos and luxury hotels in their heads.
As we remember from our biology classes, species evolve over time due to spontaneous mutations in our genetic material that either improve or not improve our capacity to thrive in our environment. Mutations that directly relate to sex and death are especially potent; the genetic code of those who have more sex and live longer tend to promulgate throughout the species.
Perhaps it’s this observation of science fiction great Robert Heinlein that stands at the fore of what’s going on in the United States today. It’s certainly true that we have largely dropped any pretense in an interest in science, logic, or even in truth.
I know I’ve posted and commented on this timeline (below) before, which maps the path of human civilization over the past 22,000 years alongside global temperatures–yet it bears repeating. Wouldn’t it be great if everyone had at least some command of these key facts?
Question: How much do each of the world’s five largest oil companies spend annually in sewing doubt about climate change into the public mind, and lobbying to prevent or at least delay legislation that would protect our planet from climate catastrophe?
Nice to see how young climate activist Greta Thunberg is capturing the hearts and minds of so many millions all over the world. Love how her calm demeanor belies her unyielding demand for a sustainable future.
