we-cannot-solve-our-problems-with-the-same-thinking-that-created-them-quote-by-albert-einsteinHere’s a video featuring a scientist who’s bearish on renewable energy because of energy density. “The trajectory of humankind’s use of energy has always been toward greater density. We gave up biomass in favor of coal. Nuclear is millions of times even more energy dense.” (more…)

The Black Swan Effect: Why Predictions of the Future Are Hard to MakeSenior energy analyst Glenn Doty is highly critical of this piece, which provides an ostensible roadmap to 100% renewable energy; his comments are here.

My response:

First, let’s acknowledge that there are optimistic people whose analyses are more rigorous. (more…)

National-Earth-Day-April-22-1024x512As we oldsters celebrated Earth Day yesterday, our minds went back to 1970, at the height of the U.S. protest movement, and rising dissatisfaction with the environmental abuses of the modern world.  (more…)

57678125_10213722903688597_2675540325035933696_nGiven the unassailable truth expressed here, it’s hard to understand why the Trump administration is taking a wrecking ball to public education.  It’s almost as if the president and his political party stand to benefit from a population of ignorant people who can’t think for themselves.  Maybe there actually is some sort of value to a voter base that can’t understand that they do not benefit from tax cuts to billionaires.

57029129_2348306605192530_8921987498725343232_nEaster is a good time to reflect on the content of the meme here.  It’s a reminder that we’re surrounded by two entirely different groups of “Christians”–those who live according to His teachings, and those who live in the precise opposite manner.

I know there are hateful, greedy pigs out there; that’s not the issue.  But why on Earth do they choose to call themselves “Christians” when their lives bear no connection whatsoever to that of Jesus?  A strange phenomenon in a bizarre world.

DIA-Brands-Singapore-OCBC-Bank-Branding-07From this article on the death of coal-fired power plants: (Singapore-based) OCBC Bank, South-east Asia’s second-largest lender, said two Vietnamese coal-fired power plants will be the last it finances as it increases funding for renewable projects. “We won’t do any new coal-fired power generation plants in any countries, except for the power projects that we are already in, or we have committed to,” chief executive Samuel Tsien said in an interview at its Singapore headquarters on Monday. “We hope that by doing this, we are encouraging the governments to do facilitating, arrangements for the countries to move from coal to renewable.” (more…)
