The term “green” no longer just refers to a color or cold-hard cash. More often than not when we hear the term green we know it is referring to the well-being of the environment, both in a personal sense and for the planet as a whole.

It says I’m headed for The Netherlands, which is not a bad recommendation. A healthy public sector that is quite progressive on environmental and other issues. The country is very clean and beautiful; lots of incredible museums–and they really love good beer. Also, extremely open-minded; if you’re not hurting someone else, they really couldn’t care less what you do there. The language is a beast, though.


We’re reminded of this as we receive the news that environmental activists have joined the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and members of nearly 100 more tribes from across the U.S. and Canada to protest the $3.8 billion Dakota Access pipeline, and protect a tribal burial site that the project would destroy. Of course, one might think that the message is so obvious and irrefutable to 99% of the world’s people that it does not need to be communicated. But those living outside the U.S. have no idea what it’s like to live here, in a country many of whose leaders openly despise science. One of our presidential candidates says that climate change is a hoax perpetrated by the Chinese, and he has the support of almost 40% of our voters. Yowza.
