No Limit To Damage Associated with Koch Brothers' Business PracticesFrequent commenter MarcoPolo writes:

You may argue that the Koch brothers are “pathologically selfish.” They may respond, with equal justification, that it’s you who are selfish, and bound up in self-righteous moralizing.

The Kochs can point to the employment they provide for 150,000 families directly, and millions more indirectly. They could point out that most of their “wealth” is tied up in the enterprises that produce the wealth and prosperity the nation depends upon. What you call, “pathologically selfish”, they would call “responsibility.” (more…)

BioGas and BioFertilizerHere’s my monthly installment on the Hedge Connection blog.  The group is an attempt (and a successful one at that) to bring together hedge fund managers with investors/allocators. Pictured here: Hedge Connection CEO Lisa Vioni.

I really like these people.  They’re kind, intelligent, and totally professional.

Don’t forget about their conference; it’s coming up June 22-24.

A Sustainable Approach to Energy -- Points of Agreement, Disagreement A reader comments: Come on Craig, admit it, you and (conservative reader) MarcoPolo are really one and the same… Gotcha didn’t I?

Lol.  Kind of like Clark Kent and Superman, I suppose?

No, in fact, MarcoPolo and I disagree on almost everything.  In particular: (more…)

UCLA’s “Grand Challenges” Cheerfully Takes on the Tough Realities Facing SustainabilityOptimists out there will respond well to what UCLA is doing out here in Southern California with its Grand Challenges,  as explained in the very well-made videos linked above.

Not to split hairs, but I think of myself as a meliorist, rather than an optimist.  I’m not confident that things are going to turn out well here on planet Earth, but I know for a fact that you and I can make a difference for the better.

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Under Attack38% of 2GreenEnergy readers live outside the U.S., which is a number so significant that I occasionally feel compelled to provide news to these “foreigners” who may not be aware of precisely how insane we Americas are from an environmental standpoint.

Here’s a little fact that may shock you folks in distant lands: One of our leading congressmen, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (pictured), is doing everything in his power to overturn our federal government’s limits on power plant pollution. (more…)

Wind Energy Is Making a Huge ContributionA conservative reader who has displayed a circumspect attitude towards renewable energy notes: Wind, Solar, Wave, Bio-fuels, Geo-thermal, and lots of other alternate energy technologies, are valid subjects for research.

I urge him to keep in mind that wind is already 5% of the U.S. grid mix; there are 370 gigawatts installed worldwide, with a CAGR of 16.2%. Denmark derives 40% of its energy from wind.  I would assert that it’s far beyond the “research” phase.

Inductive Charging Is Coming To The Electric Vehicle World, But Don't Hold Your Breath(Here is the first of what I hope to be many guest submissions from my colleague Audrea Cook.  Here, she covers inductive charging, a topic of great importance to the migration toward electric transportation.  Thanks, Audrea.  – Craig)

Inductive Charging is the wave of the future in an industry that embraces ever changing technology and it is as competitive as any UNC vs Duke Basketball game ever was.  First, what is inductive charging? (more…)

photo 320px-HazeAmpangKualaLumpur_zps5ef7bd24.jpgWill there be jobs lost when we retire our last coal-fired power plant?  Of course.  80,396 to be precise.

How upset should we be about that?  I think about it like this: There are 100 million people worldwide working in the tobacco industry(more…)
