At left, Bill Madden checks in from Boise, Idaho.

He makes an excellent point: until recently, Idaho loved Trump.

This is all terrific news.  It’s nice to know that, at a certain point, American draws the line against hatred and stupidity.

Like the fellow pictured at left, my father fought in WW2.  Dad didn’t live to see the Trump administrations, and I wish I could have gotten his take on what’s happening now, vis-a-vis what he risked his life for, bombing well-protected German oil refineries.

Dad was a conservative Republican, though he wasn’t a stupid or mean person.  This makes me suspect that he’d have a viewpoint similar to the guy with the sign here.

It’s good to see that the Catholic Church leadership is so rooted in humanitarianism, continuing along the path of Pope Francis.

Apparently, the woman here is a “95-year-old mother, Mavis, in Redding, California. She didn’t like Hitler and she doesn’t like Trump!”

Great to see.

I notice that drivers passing by political protests are generally quite supportive of the viewpoints being expressed.  Yet, as show here, that’s not uniformly the case.

Here’s Tom Fernandez, a state senator in South Carolina, flipping off his constituents.

I thought state/local politicians tried to curry favor with voters; I guess Fernandez couldn’t help himself.  That’s kind of funny, IMO.

An old friend writes: Even Nantucket had over 600 people march yesterday. This was definitely my favorite sign.

I love the sign too.

As the island only covers 105.8 square miles, it produced 5.7 protestors / sq. mi.  Could be a record!

While I don’t encourage vandalism, it’s hard not to appreciate clever (and non-permanent) alterations of traffic signs, like the one here.

Utility-scale solar is a good thing, but a 20-MW array isn’t going to serve 40,000 homes.  That’s 500 Watts/home, where the standard rooftop installation is 6 – 8 KWs.

This guy makes a good point.  You’re hosting the world’s most anticipated athletic event, featuring stars from all corners of the Earth, and you choose the planet’s most aggressively xenophobic nation?

Ill-advised, to say the least.

Well, according to a federal judge, you are, in fact, going away.  He has turned control of the National Guard back over to the State of California.  Looks like he didn’t buy your crap about the socialists, etc.

He may have also taken into consideration that the idea California’s government is “burdensome” is preposterous.  The Golden State is by far the most successful piece of the United States; if it were a country, it would be the fourth largest economy on Earth, just ahead of Japan.

Notes:

1) After I wrote this, a panel of appellate judges overturned the ruling mentioned above.

2) Their decision (in #1) is under appeal.

We’ll just have to see where this goes.
