I told my son when he was younger that, since he and I are both straight white males born into affluent families, that it may be difficult for us to appreciate the hardships put upon people of minority skin color, religion, or sexual orientation.

Can you imagine what it must be like for those who, through the simplicity and innocence of a developmental/genetic mistake, wind up a girl in a boy’s body, or vice versa?  Life wasn’t going to be tough enough without that additional burden?

Then, add in all the hate and ignorance that has been added into American life in the Trump era.  Until just a few years ago, it wasn’t cool to bully people who are different; now, it’s a national pastime, rivaling baseball and beer-drinking.

All decent people are trans allies.

According to what Bill Gates said in a recent interview quoted above, he believes that the “tipping point” for autonomous vehicles will happen within 10 years.

That’s worth a few minutes’ thought, isn’t it?

Today, the paradigm for personal vehicular travel is shifting from car ownership to ride-hailing.  Increasingly, young people are rejecting the idea of car ownership, and many are even uninterested in getting a drivers’ licenses.

OK, so what’s the difference between getting in the back seat of a car driven by a human being and one piloted by a robot?

Environmentalists are more concerned about the amount of energy consumed per mile driven, and, of course, the footprint of that energy in terms of noxious emissions.

Isn’t it time to get this back in the news?

The defamation suits against Fox News by Dominion Voting Systems ($1.6 billion) and Smartmatic ($2.7 billion) may effectively remove, via bankruptcy, this cancerous tumor from the U.S. body politic, and enable us, to whatever degree possible, to re-ground our thinking in truth.

One might think that, in the meanwhile, Fox viewers would be put off that anchors like Sean Hannity go on camera, night after night, and spew bald-faced lies to them.  Unfortunately, they don’t seem to care.  They love Trump, they hate Biden and the other socialists, they despise wokeness, etc.  That Fox lies to them makes no difference whatsoever.

As shown below, Fox News chose to interview fraudster Rod Blagojevich, who spent eight years in prison after being found guilty on 17 counts of wire fraud and extortion, for trying to sell a vacant senate seat to the highest bidder, and demanding a kickback from a children’s hospital.

The subject of the discussion?  The supposedly fraudulent activities on the part of Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg in indicting Donald Trump.  Yes, that Donald Trump, the one who commuted Blagojevich’s sentence.

This is both horribly sad and hilariously funny.  Those fine and intelligent folks at Fox couldn’t select a non-felon to interview?

My deeply Republican mom and I were talking about the indictment last night, and she believes that it “will just fall apart.”

It’s unclear where she got that idea.  As I pointed out, a) this is the product of some of our country’s great legal minds grinding away over a period of years, and b) we’ll be well into 2024 before the real action, e.g., jury selection, begins; it’s not just going to disintegrate.

Fox News wants to convince its viewers that this indictment in Manhattan, and those that are likely to follow in Georgia and the federal government, have no underlying validity and are purely politically motivated by the radical left.  Out of the other side of their mouths, of course, they say that criminal prosecution is actually helpful to Trump, because it energizes his base.

There is no doubt that his hardcore, heavily armed, violence-prone supporters are even more agitated than ever.  But are there enough of these morons to get Trump anywhere near the White House?  Nowhere close.

Trump was indicted, not indicated, but why hold him accountable for poor word use rather than attempting to overthrow the U.S. government?

One has to wonder how much further Trump can push the “stolen election” narrative, as the justice system tactically dismantles his legal position and ultimately convicts him and sentences him to prison.

Speaking of prison, does anyone, regardless of the force of the criminal proceeding against Trump, expect him to wind up behind bars?  The moment he brushes up against the prospect of losing his passport, he’ll be out of U.S. airspace on his way to Russia or Saudi Arabia within a matter of a few minutes.

I totally agree with the author of the meme here, especially given the trend toward authoritarianism we see happening in so many countries around the globe, including our own.

Demagogues need a hateful and ignorant base over which to rule, and once hate and ignorance take hold, they form a dwindling spiral, each reinforcing the other.

At a certain point, they take the culture down to the point that decent, educated people are ridiculed, in this case, as “woke.”

It’s going to take some real work to turn this around.
