The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that, as long as there is no clear discrimination, the states may do as they wish re: voting rights as established in the 14th and 15th Amendments to the Constitution.

Fine.  Explain how making it harder for people of color to vote isn’t “clear discrimination.”  How much more obvious does it have to be?

Mr. Rega writes Happy Christmas.

I share the idea.

Sadly. I don’t know to whom to attribute this masterpiece of political humor, but I thought it well worth sharing.

It’s been a while since we discussed the life cycle analysis associated with EVs vs. gas- and diesel-powered vehicles.

Here’s something from Cleantechnica that cites a major study from Yale University on the subject.

I don’t wish to give away the gist of the article, but here’s a hint: It’s called “Lying Liars & The Lies They Tell About Electric Cars.”

It would be great if there were more Tom Steyers (progressive billionaires) in the world and fewer Jeff Bezoses (selfish, abusive billionaires).

This, however, will not happen, chiefly due to the process of actually accumulating that  much wealth.  In the main, people become billionaires via a combination of the love of money and cold, hard aggression–the precise opposite characteristics to caring about the well-being of others.

One of the most repugnant aspects of American culture is our notorious butchering of the English language. For whatever reason, the error that cheeses me off most is the misuse of the word “literally,” as in “The Vikings are literally getting slaughtered.”  No, cows get literally slaughtered; the Vikings are far behind in the football game.

On a lighter note, here’s a driver who took the sign too literally.

Merry Christmas to all.

The caption on the photo here is “One Year After Rescuing the Cat.”

It’s a reminder that, with each passing year, more people are eschewing pets from breeders, and are choosing to do something truly humane.

Rightfully, there is consternation regarding the recycling of old EV batteries.  Here’s the story of a company that assembled a sizeable array of them, and uses them to store power from their solar PV farm.  (Scroll down to see a very well-made video.)

There is a powerful feature of this concept that makes it quite feasible.  That is, electric power during the day (while the sun’s shining) is dirt cheap.  A perfect time to store it, and sell it back to the utility when the price goes up.

Criminal indictments against the planners of the insurrection are sexier than civil litigation, but we’ll take what we can get.

This suit seems to have real merit.
