My father was big on turning off lights because he was frugal.

Another reason, of course, that affects those of us tied to the grid, is to do one’s part in lowering the consumption of fossil fuels.

Nobody doubts that Christianity in America isn’t what it used to be. The essence of the religion, of course, is reaching out to those in need, and offering a path to salvation.

The pastor at left seems to need a refresher course in all this.

Part of what’s bringing down the Trump presidency is his people’s remarkable inability to tell lies that are even remotely credible to the American people.  Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent claimed beef prices are rising because of immigrants bringing diseased cattle across the border.  That seems far-fetched, even to the rank-and-file MAGA Trump supporter.

Karoline Leavitt is a terrible person, but let’s be fair: she’s not incompetent; in fact, she’s very good at what she does.

She was hired by a sociopathic criminal / professional liar to tell lies to the press.  And these are not fibs; they’re calculated to misinform the American people and to protect the conman in the White House, which does immeasurable harm to this country and most of its citizens.

I wouldn’t use “queue” here in America, even if I made sure it’s spelled correctly; I would bet that barely 50% of the adult population understands this word.

Now, the “Point to Pinnacle” is a half-marathon, so these are more highly educated people than average.

But still.  How about “Line starts here….?”

A reader asks: So does that mean US truckers need to know French for (Eastern) Canada and Spanish for Mexico?

What about Europe?  Do truck drivers going from Portugal to Poland need to know five languages?

Who’s better qualified to keep us safe?  Our Department of Motor Vehicles, or a bunch of racists?

To answer the question posed here, I wouldn’t judge their intelligence. The human race has plenty of intelligence.  Unfortunately, it has plenty of greed and hatred too.

In response to the reader who sent me this, here’s a suggestion: leave us alone.  We don’t need some Trump supporter telling us how to live our lives.

Flicking on the TV a minute or so before “Jeopardy,” I came across an ad for a home air filter called “The Barnacle.”

Having spent essentially my entire adult life dedicated to the task of making the world fall in love with my clients’ brands, I had one primary principal: associate that brand with something that is already well-known and liked in the prospect’s mind.

Of course, the average American’s vocabulary is a fraction of what it was 30 years ago, but really? The Barnacle? A parasite? An invasive species?

From the AI summary:  Barnacles need to be removed from ships because they increase drag, which reduces fuel efficiency by up to 40%, increase pollution, and can eventually damage the hull. They are a major source of biofouling that slows ships down, costing billions of dollars annually, notes National Defense Magazine and NOAABarnacles also pose a risk to marine life, such as sea turtles, by adding weight, impeding movement, or even causing infection from burrowing species

I wish I had been in the boardroom when this subject was under discussion. Did someone suggest “The Disease?” “The Plague?” “The Cancer?”

Of course.  Stuff like this happens all the time.

The landslide election of a liberal mayor in America’s biggest city, with the country’s most sophisticated people, is bound to cause a calamity.  New York City is the nation’s #1 economy, whose metro area’s GDP is north of $2 trillion, and it’s going to see some of the nation’s wealthiest people move to places like Kansas.

To be sure, the folks who run the New York Stock Exchange, Nasdaq, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and entertainment, including film and television, are headed elsewhere.
As one billionaire told me, “Woke people make me puke.  I’ve never explored this, but I have a feeling that real core competency is growing wheat.  Got my fingers crossed, hoping for plenty of rain.”
