When someone makes an assertion during a discussion on politics and asks for my position, I often respond, “I believe it’s more complicated than that.”  Border security, declarations of war, limits on free speech, teaching religion in public schools, administering drugs to children, criminal penalties, Israel/Palestine, closing the gap between rich and poor, and dozens of other issues are nuanced, whether we like it or not.

Of course, there many issues in which my viewpoint is black and white.  There are things I want none of, e.g., money in politics and the death penalty, and there are things I want categorically, say, universal healthcare, Carbon Fee and Dividend, common sense gun laws, and a woman’s right to choose abortion.

Yet we need to understand the validity of the point being made in the meme above.

The meme here echoes what I’m saying all along.  Conspiracy theorists do not consider that every country on Earth (206 of them) is dealing with the same disease.  Each one has its own set of doctors, nurses, and other members of the healthcare apparatus.  Do you think the medical teams in Japan or Argentina could possible care less about helping the federal government of the United States to enslave its citizenry?

The problem, of course, is rank ignorance.  Most of these QAnon-style morons couldn’t find Japan and Argentina on a globe.

As shown in the video below, Trump supporters now find themselves at a point where night is day and day is night, if that’s what the former president says.

There is no statement, regardless of how demonstrably false, that these poor slobs won’t accept as true.

As long as this remains the case, and there are no signs that it’s changing, Trump will enjoy a political life of indefinite length, and our country will continue to be torn apart, the laughing stock of the planet.

Here’s another installment from the farmer/right-wing political figure who is critical of things like renewable energy and plant-based meat.  His point here is that red meat is an excellent source of trace minerals like zinc.  The body does not store zinc, and so it needs to be in our daily diets.

But what he doesn’t seem to (or perhaps want to) realize is:

Wouldn’t you love to be the lead attorney for Dominion Voting Systems suing the Trump administration?  Yes, the defendant had no evidence that there was wrong-doing on the plaintiff’s part, but it’s far worse.  The defendant knew goddamn well that they were lying.

They want $1.3 billion in damages; let’s hope they get every dime.

Let’s also hope that America comes to its senses and recognizes precisely how evil these bastards are.

Questioning, in general, hasn’t become taboo.  In fact, in no place is it “taboo” per se.

However, there are people with no training in a scientific topic who challenge those who have been studying and researching that subject all their lives; they look like total jackasses. The same holds true for people who suggest that the entire healthcare system has conspired to damage our health.

From this piece on Brexit: See that pic (at left)? That’s a portrait of life in modern-day Britain. There’s shortages of everything, from gas, to food, to milk, to beer. Here’s a modern society running out of something completely fundamental and basic. Why?

The Brits have the same issue with racism and xenophobia as we do here in the States, which, of course, is what drove the lesser educated folks to vote to leave the EU, giving the U.K. the right to ban the influx of immigrants.

One consequence, however, is the enormous damage to the British economy, one aspect of which is massive shortages.  You have guys who formerly had impeccable manners, now getting into fist-fights over gasoline.

A conclusion that could be drawn from all this is that when a country goes the way of the uneducated racist low-life, bad things happen.

Here in the U.S., we haven’t turned our nation over to the MAGA people, and we haven’t accepted the Big Lie as truth.  But we came damn close, and we’re still not free and clear.

It can’t be overstated how important it is that these acts of treason against America and her democracy be stopped and the traitors held accountable.  History tells us that once a democracy is dashed to pieces, it’s incredibly hard to repair.

As appealing a notion as it is, holding Fox News accountable for the death of thousands of viewers, whose only crime was gullibility, is not going to be easy.  That’s because, at least as far as I understand, the plaintiff has to show direct causation, i.e., that certain specific people died by taking the advice of Fox who otherwise would still be alive.

Too bad.  Justice here would sure be sweet.

Urging people to get involved in politics has been around for a very long time.  As Plato put it: One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors.

I’m not sure Americans need too much encouragement at this point.  You’re either a Trump supporter or you believe Trump is a criminal who should be imprisoned. Staying out of this conversation takes real work.

I suppose you have to give the man credit for staying at the forefront of our political discussions.  Of course, if the media would stop giving him coverage, he’d lose his relevance immediately. But that’s not going to happen, insofar as news is a for-profit industry whose monetary value is a function of the raw number of viewers/readers, and nothing attracts attention like a loud-mouth conman.
