As one could expect, the people spreading malicious lies on Facebook are having a hell of a time with the fact that FB will not host their BS.
Someone wrote: FB has just censored 3 of my posts before the ink was even dry; this is how communists operate………………..
You may be aware that Trump is suing FB, Twitter, and Google on the basis that they are violating his First Amendment right to free speech.  The reason that this case will be immediately dismissed is that these are private entities with terms of use that enable them to remove content that contains misinformation/disinformation.  They’re perfectly within their rights to do so.

As we look down the barrel of the first, and almost definitely not the last, of the variants of COVID-19, we are dealing with the very significant percentage of the U.S. population that refuses to get vaccinated, a phenomenon that could make dealing with the pandemic impossible.

This comes at a time when the rejection of science and the absorption of misinformation/disinformation is at an all-time high.  The cartoon at left represents what underlies a great deal of this: the notion that the average Joe can use the Internet to become an expert on this or any other subject.

From the Chicago Sun-Times:

For the first time in Chicago, some 911 calls for mental health emergencies won’t be answered by police officers but by mental health professionals paired with paramedics.

In one pilot program starting this fall, a paramedic will be dispatched with a mental health clinician for “behavioral health calls.” In another, a paramedic will work with a “recovery specialist” on calls involving substance abuse.

“America First” and “Make America Great Again” are the two most prominent slogans of Trump and his supporters.

Once could argue that they’re not too much worse than “God Bless America,” because it too suggests that there is something exceptional, something singularly wonderful about the United States.  Some folks think that God should choose to bless America, rather than France or Japan, or one of the other 200+ sovereign nations on the planet because of what fine people we are and the fabulous values we hold.

In any case,  Trump’s slogans are indeed chosen well, as they appeal to people with these beliefs.

We can only hope that this era gives way to one of greater enlightenment and compassion for our fellow human beings.

In Malibu Starbucks just now and ran into Caitlyn Jenner, one of the dopes vying to take Gov. Newsom’s job. I engaged her, asking what she drives and what her position was on energy. She drives an Escalade!!! And worse, her understanding of energy is Trumpian in its ignorance.

From The New Yorker: In Barry Blitt’s latest Kvetchbook, Donald Trump’s vision of an August reinstatement reaches new level of surreality. (Larger version below)

So what happens in the mind of Trumpers when their guy isn’t reinstated in August?

What happens when they see lawyers who spread the Big Lie in court suspended or disbarred ?

From NPR:

The shooting death of a 2-year-old girl in Kentucky at the hands of her 5-year-old brother has opened up yet another debate about gun control.

While no one favors the idea of 5-year-olds using weapons without supervision, there is no consensus on the appropriate age to start hands-on training with firearms. (more…)

Rightfully, those billionaires choosing to build new businesses in recreational space travel rather than addressing the vast suffering here on Earth are taking a terrible public relations hit.   Here’s a clever meme that speaks to that.

On a personal note, a true coincidence, the guy who piloted Branson’s space flight and I share a high school calculus teacher.

Dr. George Kiser, Professor Emeritus of Politics and Government in the College of Arts and Sciences at Illinois State made the comment at left.

It’s a vicious cycle, in that anti-intellectualism emboldens ignorant people, whose statements tend to dominate social media, driving us even deeper into anti-intellectualism.
