Here’s a 60-second television advertisement produced by the Lincoln Project, an American political action committee formed in late 2019 by several prominent Republicans and former Republicans in an effort to prevent the re-election of Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election. (more…)

It’s a lucky break that George Will graduated from my alma mater Trinity College exactly 15 years before I did; this means that our reunions coincide, and thus I occasionally get to listen to him speak. What a treat it is to sit in an audience, humbled by the amazing intelligence of the speaker.  It’s a shame that I disagree with 99% of everything he believes, but it’s still a heady experience.  (more…)

When I was at Georgetown University studying philosophy in the late 1970s, I found that a significant number of professors, even those in math and sciences were Jesuit priests. i.e., members of the Society of Jesus (SJ). (more…)

It goes without saying that an insignificant number of Democrats will vote for Trump.  The problem the president faces, however, is that his outrageous behavior is driving away many in the GOP.

When my mom and I speak on the phone, the subject of Trump comes up frequently, and I sometimes say, “I think (latest outrage) may be the one that pushes him off the cliff.”  Mom then replies, “Do you realize you’ve been saying that every week or so for the past three years?” (more…)

It appears that there may be some truth to the meme here.  Think of what’s happened since Trump took office:

• A continuous stream of lies, corruption and criminality that has resulted in the disgrace of the United States on the world stage

• Institutionalized cruelty to the world’s most desperate people

Here’s an interesting story out of Canada that addresses their take on free speech.  Like America’s, the Canadian Constitution protects citizens’ rights to speak freely under most circumstances.  Yet their courts’ interpretation of what we call our First Amendment is apparently a bit different.  This climate denier’s (pictured) right to free speech is guaranteed, but he’s still subject to libel charges.  Contrast that to the U.S., where things like libel, incitement, child pornography, and several others are explicitly not protected.  Check this out: (more…)
