This is just another is a long string of obstructions of justice.

We are (or were) a nation of laws.

Talk about “unsustainable.”  The only thing that can stem from tolerating this is authoritarianism, if we’re not already there.

Just haul him out of there in handcuffs.

A reader submitted this photo, and notes, “Here’s a 1 MW unit we built in the Republic of Georgia.”

I’m suspicious, and here’s why.  It’s impossible to measure the height and diameter with real accuracy, because there’s nothing recognizable at the same distance from the camera, but judging by the house in the background, I’m going to say the height is ~3m and the diameter ~2m.  Thus its swept area is ~6m2, which is the equivalent of a traditional turbine with radius of ~1.5m.  Using the equation:

Power = π/2 * radius² * wind velocity³ * air density * efficiency

and given a good efficiency rating and air density,  we find that a 1MW turbine would require a wind speed of 187.56 MPH.  That’s quite a stiff little breeze! I’m not sure how long that house would last under such conditions.

I’m sure there are Americans who are proud that they live in a country so powerful that it can flout international law, practice torture, and commit war crimes and other human rights violations with impunity.

I speak for those who would prefer this were a compassionate, honest and law-abiding nation.

We tend to look at Donald Trump in terms of what he says and does, as these, by his careful design, are so outrageous.  Conversely, we tend not to perceive Trump for what he doesn’t have, which is why I found this meme so striking and indeed, so frightening.

To be sure, Trump’s lack of character sets him alone in the annals of the American presidency.

This is a horrific moment in U.S. history. May it be over soon.

My friend Bill Moore, of EVWorld.com fame, likes to let the world know how well his home state of Nebraska is doing  in terms of phasing out fossil fuels in favor of wind.  Here we see this morning’s report, represented as a pie-chart, that has wind (orange) at about 53%.

Of course, not every place on Earth has wind resources like the Plains States here in the U.S. Yet it’s good to know that real progress is being made in the integration of renewable energy.

Is this really going to work for Trump?  Further news emerges on his criminal behavior re: Ukraine, an hour later we strike Iran, and people think this is a coincidence?

Oh well, weapons manufacturers and their investors are popping open the champagne.  That’s nice, isn’t it?

This made me laugh, but it’s not right to disparage people for killing their own food, especially when it’s a species that has a tendency towards overpopulation.  I actually have more respect for these folks than I do meat-eaters who buy their beef wrapped in cellophane, conveniently ignoring the fact that the animal lived and died in horribly cruel conditions.

From this article“Scientists have a moral obligation to clearly warn humanity of any catastrophic threat and to ‘tell it like it is,'” a group of scientists wrote in a letter published in BioScience Tuesday. “On the basis of this obligation and the graphical indicators presented below, we declare, with more than 11,000 scientist signatories from around the world, clearly and unequivocally that planet Earth is facing a climate emergency.” (more…)

Here’s a very thoughtful piece about moral philosophy as it pertains to every human being on this planet as it devolves into environmental ruin.  Who’s to blame? Whom do we need to hold accountable?

My God, what a complicated subject this is, and what a fabulous job the author has done in putting this together.

Here’s a cheery article that offers five climate-related mega-predictions for the coming decade.  Though it’s insightful at a certain level, most what the author presents is essentially guaranteed to happen.  Climate denial ends, followed by the mobilization of capital to phase out fossil fuels. Got it. (more…)
