After the Emissions Scandal, Volkswagen Wants Us Back

la-pol-sac-california-vehicle-emissions-20170324My ill-fated idea to trade in my eight-cylinder 4.0 liter BMW for a high-mileage (43 MPG) car led me to the VW Jetta TDI, which I traded back to them the moment the Department of Justice ordered them to make such an offer.  When I dropped the car off, I told them that I wouldn’t be coming back, but I still get emails telling me about the latest deal from VW.  Here’s the response I just wrote:

After the emissions scandal, any previous VW owner who buys another one is almost as morally defective as VW itself, i.e., the perpetrator of the crime.  People who deal with criminals are themselves, criminals.

If you want to do business with any decent human being even again, you can start by calculating the damage you did to our atmosphere and to the health of everyone on the planet, and then making full dollar-for-dollar restitution. Until then, honest people won’t be thinking about buying anything from VW, any more than we would be considering a purchase from ISIS, the KKK, the Talaban, the Mafia, or the NRA.

Now, that really was charming, wasn’t it?  Yet, as delightful as I was, I’m not sure I’ll get a response.
