From Guest Blogger Vasan: The Role of Sustainable Development

We are imposed to lead a mechanical life.  Whether we accept or not, we are being forced to live more and more sedentary and mechanical life.  Right after waking up, including our exercise which is customized by ourselves to suit our imposed mechanical lifestyle.  After the so called our time, till we go out for work – travelling, working, watching Television or any other almost all the dimensions of so called entertainment and till sleeping,  everything is mechanical.  It is only weekends we get and these weekends also like exercise depends on several other parameters of our life.

These are the main reasons behind our passive lifestyle – accepting what is offered by the system and our thought process revolves around this restricted circle itself and not beyond.  Discipline is an important dimension for life but, that should not be an imposed or compromised dimension of life.  This weakens our thought process and in the long run, we cease to think and this will continuously reduces our emotional and spiritual quotient. But, do we need these two dimensions in our life ?  Answer is a big Yes, as these two dimensions in equilibrium with our intelligence quotient keeps our life in the worthy dimension.

How are the above expressions relevent in the dimension of sustainable development ?  Yes, there is relevance.  Intelligence quotient is in the increasing plane but by and large the significant section of the society are made to think less and less creatively restricting their thought process in the mundane materialistic dimension of existentialism.  Then who are the section of persons who are involved in sustenance of the presently practiced system ?  They are political and bureaucratic section with the help of scientists who are considered as experts in their domain.

Scientists are specialists who know more and more about less and less.  It is not an offensive gesture but a harsh reality.  To support this one more expression is necessary.  This section does not have a consensus among themselves which directly reflects their egotic nature which unfortunately falls in the negative dimension.  Each have a different say and they are emphatic.  Where do they derive strength from ?  It is here capitalism and its negative dimension comes into the picture.  Through the section of so called scientists or specialists in different domain, a section of wealthy class are nurturing their ever increasing greed.  Yes, it has become a vicious nexus and this is affecting the real and worthy living dimension itself.  It is only the significant section of common man and the mother nature which are the two dimensions affected.

Almost all the so called scientists or specialists are influenced by the greedy section of the capitalistic kingpins who nurture the intelligent section for their own restricted to the ignorant perceptions and expressions.  I am not wandering but it appears to be, as the root cause has to be traced in the same way it has grown.  Forced consumerism reflects glut and hunger reflects scarcity. Both are predominant and reaching new peaks with time.  It is this dimension which has to be checked and this change cannot be in the gradual and uni-dimensional plane but, the change should be revolutionary and multidimensional one.

Mother nature will never be benefited by a section of people but only when every individual start thinking and practicing in a constructive dimension.  Be it from individual to universal level.

The very basic food, clothing and shelter are commercialised, diluted and distorted by a section of our society.  Common man is being imposed throughout his life in these dimensions.  Common man has been lured with a carrot of luxury with a centralised approach for all his materialistic needs.  But the very basic dimension the system has either ignored or ignorant about the fast depleting natural resources which we are still borrowing from our future generations.  We are not going towards the destruction but we are audacious and drawing the destruction towards us.

Sustainability is not a dimension which can be practiced by a section of people to attain totality but it is a dimension which attains the dimension of completeness only when it is practiced by one and all – from individual to societal and governance level.  Presently what are the dimensions which should be explored ?  Again, we have to retrace our path.  We have brought in catastrophic changes in several dimensions of human life.  They have to be addressed by retracing our path.

FOOD :-  Food is still considered as a birth right of every individual but which is not in practice.  This should be revived and restored.  But, How is is possible ?  It is possible only with a de-centralised approach and not with our present centralised approach which are tainted with vested interests.  To understand this, we have to understand the very basic notion of the present form of food is a fallacy.  Food is a form from which we derive energy.  But, energy in what form ?  It is the energy either the plant or the animal has absorbed and this will be derived and absorbed by us with a mechanism.  Do we need this mechanism, is the greatest question we have to answer.  No, we do not need this mundane mechanism if at all we can revive and restore the practice of absorbing energy in its true sense. It is true.  We can directly absorb energy from the source – sun, in its true form and we do not need a media – food for our sustenance.  But, there are limitations in both perceptional and practicing dimensions and h nce the next best option is the earlier practiced de-centralised approach.  We have to have an alternative to the society regarding food and then only we can suceed in combating the centralised and polluted dimension.

WATER :-  Water is another dimension which we have to address.  We need water for our personal existence, agriculture and all other allied agricultural activities.  Water is either provided by the system or individually explored and derived.  Both of the dimension are catastrophic to the nature.  Surface water utilisation is the best possible solution for this.  Flowchart for the last 20 years and the prediction based on this dimension by mines and geology department will enable us to assess the situation in a better way.  Infiltration pits in agricultural lands are the solution for this created crisis.  Water for drinking, irrigation and even other dimensions can be attained by harvesting rainwater.

SHELTER : –  The third dimension in existence of human being.  Commercialised, diluted and distorted just to suit the need or rather the greed of the persons who projected the concept.  Whether it is vertical or illogical dimension of linear dimension, growth never happened as it should have constructively happen but in the dimension of the created illusionistic dimension.
