And the Winner of "Greenest Neighborhood" Is …

Having a car in the New York area definitely feels like the wrong tool for the job, but there are times it’s unavoidable, e.g., when one also has appointments in the periphery of the area that aren’t well served by train.  Driving also has the side benefit of allowing me to listen to Fordham University’s radio station, WFUV, 90.7 FM, by my wits the nation’s very best offering of folk-rock singer-songwriters.

During a break from the music, I learned that a certain neighborhood in Brooklyn had won an award for the borough’s “greenest block.”  What a clever idea for a contest.  Wouldn’t it be terrific to have all our citizens encouraging one another to grow our own food, use less energy, and lessen our impact on the natural environment?

  1. Now in NY, block competition is worth fighting for, as long as Killer Tomatoes don’t form gangs and fight causing collateral damage into the Worm Casings. If it comes down to Zucchini and Tomatoes, my bet is on the Zuc’s. I really think this program could work it’s way to the Worlds Series. Everyone knows NY rules. I know some people from NY and they have convinced me..I am a So. Cal dude myself, but I will bet this is a keeper. We need sponsors from seed co’s, and Garden Industry. Come on let’s fight to the last quarter and insist that our team is the only team !
Supper Bowl will be the end event of the yr. where Gourmets judge and fight to determine the winner. Let the Tomato slinging begin!
We need a War worth fighting, NY to Ca. needs a sport not on TV and I am convinced that NY can do this.
