Energy Security Infographics

Here’s a terrific set of infographics on energy security, i.e., the concept of preventing impact to our lives due to a disruption of energy.

Obviously, this needs to be a huge factor in the discussion surrounding renewables.  To the degree that the U.S. develops solar, wind, biomass, hydro, and geothermal energy, it will be immune from potential disruptions.  Strangely, this conversation seems to be taking a back seat here.

    ….immune from potential disruptions????

There are a lot of eco terrorists out there who have the potential to disrupt the greenest of energy systems if they perceive them to be a threat to their mantra.
For example, a number of years ago a group was spiking trees to cause damage to sawmills and workers because the prescribed cutting practices were not to their liking. Power transmission lines have been knocked down to protest centralized power production.
Don’t you think that some nut will take a shot or two at a CSP tower if they think a desert tortise might be inconvenienced?
Overall, I think your point is well taken though.
Reducing the need to fight for or protect Middle East oil trumps all right now. I would rather have our troops protecting our green power generation networks at home than trying to defend an outpost in Middle East desert that happens to be sitting on a billion barrels of oil. L

A very large percentage of renewable energy will be distributed generation, which, obviously is much harder to disrupt.

    Actually, renewable energy is self-disruptive.
