Tribune Company: Tell The Koch Brothers To Take a Hike

Now that the regulations on centralized control of news media have all but disappeared, we face the inevitable: multi-billionaires clamoring for ownership of the largest media outlets.  Case in point: the Koch Brothers, worth about $50 billion, are attempting to buy the Tribune Company, whose assets include the Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Tribune, The Baltimore Sun, and a host of other papers across the country.

What’s to fear?  Well, at a minimum, it is a steady stream of poisonous lies about energy and the environment.  They made their fortune in oil and coal, and they spend a chunk of that every year in a desperate attempt to confuse Americans on the reality of global warming, the legitimacy of their product as the lifeblood of America, and lack of suitability of renewable energy.

In my humble opinion, the tight concentration of media control and the deliberate distortion of important facts is simply not what America is about.  If you agree, please consider doing what I just did: write to the chairman of The Tribune, Peter Liguori, and ask him not to sell to the Koch Brothers.

Will it work?  I’m not sure.

But here’s another question whose answer is quite clear: Will our civilization survive without the involvement of thoughtful people like you?  Not a chance.
