Gotta Like SmartGridNews’ Cheery Demeanor

I love these people at SmartGridNews.  They keep the content positive and hopeful – even in a world that’s having some pretty obvious fits and starts adopting smart grid.  And they try to get at the subject from every conceivable direction.  Here’s an article they just sent on power outages, pointing out that utilities that deploy smart grid are much faster at restoring power when it goes out as a result of a storm.  That’s hard to object to, isn’t it?  I don’t know anyone who doesn’t let a foul word slip when the lights go off and the computer crashes.

An excerpt:

During Hurricane Sandy, even utilities with only partially complete smart grid implementations improved and streamlined outage management. Smart grid technology gave utilities greater visibility into affected areas with two-way communications. With real-time insight, the smart grid automated key processes, easily locating and rerouting power around trouble spots, reducing unnecessary truck rolls and saving costs …… With just 10 percent of 1.3 million planned smart meters installed, Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE), restored power to 90 percent of affected customers within 48 hours.
