GE's 500th Wind Turbine in Brazil

Why is the stock market doing so well when prospects for economic strength in the U.S. are so scary?  It’s because the market – or even the set of large companies that happen to be headed here in the U.S. — doesn’t really care too much about America’s economic future.  General Motors generates most of its profits selling in Asia, and General Electric, with its ever-widening array of renewable energy solutions, understandably believes the U.S. market is something of a joke.

But according to this article, GE yesterday announced its 500th wind turbine installation in Brazil.  Apparently, the 1.6 (MW) turbine was installed in the state of Rio Grande do Norte.   GE has had a presence in Brazil since 1919 and today, employs more than 8,500 people in the country.

Can anyone expect GE to care that the U.S. is a non-event in the migration away from fossil fuels in the direction of renewables?  Sell where your customers are.  Make hay while (and where) the sun shines. There will always be certain people who just don’t get it.  Maybe the future will bring change, and, as an American, I hope it does.  But until then, I urge GE to simply “go for it.”
