Yes, America Has No Energy Policy — But Is That An Accident?

Here’s an article from my colleague Jesse Berst, who, introducing the piece, writes: “Like many of you, I find it distinctly embarrassing that the United States is the only developed country without a national energy policy. That’s why I was pleased to discover that more than 100 energy experts have collaborated to suggest a way forward.”

Sounds like a provocative start – and an encouraging one at that.  Don’t we all want to see 100+ energy experts help the U.S. get on the right path?  But it’s hard to see – even from this rather optimistic article itself, that anything like this is on its way to fruition.

By the way, what strikes you as the most reasonable explanation? Multiple choice:

a) That the reason that the only developed country in the known universe doesn’t have an energy policy is an accident?

b) That Zeus (shown above), a kind, loving god, and the king of all gods, has a plan for all Americans that happens to exclude an energy policy?

c) That our de facto energy policy is exactly what the most powerful people on Earth desire: sucking the last molecule of fossil fuels out of the ground, and selling it to you and me?

Sorry to sound cynical, but let’s be real.
