Solar Thermal Hot Water

I spend a few hours every day working for a client that offers a unique approach and capability in the solar thermal hot water space.  For those who may be having trouble visualizing this, shown here is what is called “flat-plate” technology, which has been around for several decades.  My job is to tell the world that breakthroughs in this space make it quite attractive from a cost/watt perspective.

When one thinks about building-integrated solar energy, one’s mind goes immediately to BIPV (building-integrated photovoltaics), but using the sun to preheat water for residential, commercial, and industrial use (think dairy barns) is a terrific idea.  The product has efficiency in the mid-teens, which makes it competitive with PV on a “per-square-foot” basis.  I’m still working out exactly what information I’m permitted to make public, but for now let me say that I’m 100% convinced that this stuff can be made and installed far more cost-effectively than PV.

More on this soon.
